DESCRIPTION: Length up to 8.5mm. A Soldier Beetle with an orange/yellow pronotum and elytra with the latter sporting a black butternut squash shaped marking. The pronotum is black and the hind legs are darkish. The mid femurs and tibiae are reddish or sometimes dark. The head is red in front of the eyes and the wide pale edges to abdominal segments will assure the full ID. BEHAVIOUR: Adults are seen in grassy flowery areas and swept from Hawthorn. DISTRIBUTION: Frequent throughout England and southern Scotland. HABITAT: Found in rough grassland, hedgerows, woodland edges and the like. This species seems to have a liking for Hawthorn blossom. PERIOD: Best seen from late April to early August.
